Description
Summary:This thesis aims to explore which aspects of a coworking space play an important role for people working there, especially, what characteristics lead to satisfaction with the coworking space and in what environment can workers perform best. The study focuses on the German city Berlin. The research design adopts mixed-methods. A quantitative questionnaire was filled in by people working in coworking spaces in Berlin. Besides that, coworking space managers were interviewed, which adds qualitative information. Quantitative results were analyzed by descriptive statistics and simple moderation analysis. Qualitative outcomes were analyzed by content analysis. The main findings are that there is a high correlation between satisfaction with the coworking space and performance in situations of low external networking. Besides that, it was revealed that performance has a positive influence on feelings of job insecurity when job crafting can be deployed. Qualitative results show the importance of community and networking in coworking spaces and look into environmental aspects. Limitations of the study are a small sample size and a questionnaire which was translated two times, which leads to loss of information. This work raises the understanding of the functioning of coworking spaces.
