Description
Summary:This dissertation has an architectural intervention project exercise, as an object of reflection and work, in a degraded and vacant building (garage) in Matosinhos. It is, simultaneously, a reflection on the experience of designing and on the dialogue between what one thinks to draw, what one intends to do and what one draws, according to the circumstances, with the various interveners and the institutions that condition the act to architect. Thus, the work has an experimental, exploratory and open character that will seek to encourage the confrontation between the abstract process of the world of skits and ideas (and the solutions that might be fixed and transfigured) with the external data existing in the process of design (the problems, circumstances, program, budget and legislation) that determine it. Throughout the work, themes related to the way of living (or types of living) and the modes of projecting will be evoked and considered. Written reflection will be accompanied by sketches and drawings of the process or presentation drawings that clarify the intentions, directions, criteria or that emphasize the struggle between the path of the possible (or the probable) and the path of the necessary. The drawing has the role not only of an instrument of analysis, but also of communication and visualization, providing a kind of platform for narrative, opening the way to the question of how design thinking provides or represents the possibility and the proposal to inhabit. Therefore, this dissertation is, in its essence, a reflection on the dialogue between what is being drawn (what is being proposed) and the conditions on which the act of drawing is based. The contributions of the various interlocutors (clients, institutions, etc.) that throughout the work process guide and motivate the project's intentions, providing and creating interrogations, trajectory variations and spatial-formal solutions.
