Summary: | The research data management has been a regular topic of the present time that has been showing an increasing awareness of the importance of it. The development of technologies used to produce, collect and analyze data has resulted in increased concern on the part of researchers and entities involved in research projects. Since large amounts of potential data are produced that can constitute a publication per se and justify the results of the research and further encourage the re-use of such data, contributing to research by third parties, data management becomes a key issue in the investigation. With the aim of contributing to the growth of data value and for data management to become part of the research projects, this study presents the entire workflow of the data management process of the UrbanSense project. The present dissertation studies how the research data management can be an asset in the valorization and reuse of data, being used as case study environmental data collected by sensors located in the city of Porto, resulting from the UrbanSense project, which had as main objective to make the city of Porto a Smart City. Since it is a large amount of data, it is important to organize and describe it. To do this, several metadata models are studied from which descriptors are selected and incorporated into the collaborative Dendro data management platform with the aim of depositing the data in the data repository of the Institute of Systems and Computers Engineering, Technology and Science (INESC TEC) so that these are accessible and can be reused giving rise to new research projects.
