Summary: | With only one century of existence, plastics achieved a constant presence in our daily lives. Not being ignored by artists, they found their way into sculpture with the new artistic movements of modernism. Plastics are frequently visible in international sculpture, but at a national level the presence of plastics has been only sporadic. In order to foment the application of a very versatile material in Portuguese sculpture, the present dissertation has as objective addressing the technical application of plastics in sculpture. With a central focus on the material, it is intended, in first instance to define plastic, describing its proprieties and limitations, and then describe the techniques of manipulation of plastics without the use of industrial equipment. Portuguese bibliography relative to the proposed subject is almost inexistent, it is hoped that the present work contributes to future enterprises in the theme at hand
