| Resumo: | Digital preservation planning is more and more considered a key element of information management and preservation of historical and administrative memory. Several initiatives promoted by the public and private sector are studying the theme, proposing tools, and the Open Archival Information System Reference Model - OAIS plays a central role in its development. The text discusses technical aspects associated to digital preservation according to the OAIS standard and presents some outstanding initiatives in the research related to this subject. The universe of digital preservation is also analysed in the Portuguese academic research environment and in practical examples of its elaboration and/or implementation of Digital Preservation Plans. Technical architectures and planning tools available for digital preservation are also presented. As a practical case study, the process of elaboration of the Digital Preservation Plan of the Portuguese Parliament, developed by INESC TEC, allows the monitoring of the process from beginning to end. From the revision of the general framework of digital preservation and the planning of the case study, the work proposes a method for the elaboration of digital preservation plans.
