Resumo:The present Master dissertation integrates a study about the intervention in the preexisting, namelly, the theme of ruin in the work of Eduardo Souto de Moura. This dissertation is divided in three moments: The Theme, The Author and The case study. It's intended to understand the role that preexistences play in the architect's work and how they're assumed in his projects. It's the ruin, as an operative element of project, that aims to understand. This study focuses on the analysis of works signed by Eduardo Souto de Moura in order to interpret the various approaches and project strategies adopted towards the ruin. To understand his work process it's necessary an understanding about the relation between architecture, place and nature and it's essential to interpret the theme of ruin in his work.
