Summary: | The main purpose of this communication is to present a new Information Management Model based on the research and reflection carried around the traditional areas of Libraries and Archives, their practical activities and theoretical approaches, as well as the different ways followed by "records management" and "archives" in thetwentieth century. This model assumes a systemic, holistic and complex thinking, and has its ontological and epistemological foundations in the Information Science. Itpretends answering to the challenges which must be faced by the organizations in the Information Society. The information is the object of study and work, although we use traditional or digital technology to produce, manage, keep and preserve it. This is a new paradigm which has already support some case studies, namely the "IntegratedManagement of the Municipality Information System" applied to the current management of the City Council of Vila do Conde, in Portugal.
