Summary: | The dissertation comprises a theoretical-practical study on the practice of architecture, as an essay on a singular circumstance of a project. This space of research, thought and design seeks to develop a personal expectation of Life and Architecture, from the importance of popular architecture as an operative heritage to contemporaneity. With a focus on becoming, the objective of the investigation is centered on the operational (re)discovery of the popular architectural heritage, paying attention to the current housing construction of rural territories in transformation, based on the study of a practical case: a house in the municipality of Arouca. The case study enhances the analysis of an architectural device and its marks of life, reflected in the exercise of a project as an action of valorization and continuity. While reconciling the built space with the life that legitimizes it, optimizing its operation to current requirements, the exercise of the project tests the possibility of a House-Atelier, keeping the existing building as a habitat for life and family work. This reflection, translated into drawing, addresses themes that we believe to be of the first order in the contemporary context, namely with regard to the process of urban transformation of rural territories, potentially becoming a positive and operative vision of popular heritage as a practicable response to contemporaneity.
