Summary:Rafael Lomba Viana was born on 9th July 1932, in Lourenço Marques, nowadays Maputo. He became a Doctor in the Faculty of Medicine of Porto. He left his mark as a Professor, as Doctor and as a Researcher in Europe and Africa. His doctor dissertation "The importance of angiography in the study of some hepatomegalies" is a unique work and reflects his research in Mozambique. He was the founder of 3 Medical Departments in 3 different portuguese cities. He sought after the generalization of the use of endoscopy as a diagnostic and treatment procedure paved on a strong educational foundation. Rafael Lomba Viana died on 19th November 2019, leaving a huge work worthy of applause.
