Resumo:Abstract: The author applies theoretical and methodological considerations to a case study. Within the framework of the Public Communication of Art project, a questionnaire was carried out on specific segments of an art museum’s audience sample, at 'Sem Rede' exhibition by plastic artist Joana Vasconcelos, which took place from March 1 to May 18 2010, at the Berardo Collection Museum, Lisbon. A sample of 5011 visitors was surveyed, 50 of whom were tourists. The latter were included in the sample due to the fact that Berardo Museum is located at the important tourist area of Belém, and tourists are frequent visitors to this cultural place, as was verified in the pre-survey. A first sub-chapter considers a sub-sample of museum visitors of Portuguese nationality (451), and the next sub-chapter includes a second sub-sample of foreign tourists (50). In order to cover these different segments of museum audiences, 3 versions of the questionnaire form were created, in Portuguese, Spanish and English, which were applied according to the profile of the approached visitors. Such questionnaire forms can be found in Appendices 1 and 2 at the end of the book. Sections of the questionnaire unfold in 4 main areas: 1. The visit to the exhibition (from question 1 to question 6). 2. Characterization of the museum audiences (questions 7 to 11) 3. Public Communication of Art (including questions 12-19). 4. Public Understanding of Art (from question 20 to the end. Finally, the author presents a summary of the analyzes and interpretations made on this survey.
