Resumo:The purpose of this article is to discuss the reverberations of the affirmative action policies and the black university project developed by the Federal University of Recôncavo da Bahia (UFRB - Brazil), considering the dedicated and committed actions of black managers and directors in charge of the Department of Affirmative Action and Student Affairs (PROPAAE). This article is the result of a qualitative study in which eight semi-structured interviews were conducted with eight subjects involved in the administration of that Department during 2009-2016. The study reveals that the programs and proposals promoted by those subjects encouraged policies based both on affirmative action and on the conception of a university that is rooted in racial equality and equity perspectives.
